The day before the party, things started to happen at breakfast.
"I thought you might like a pain killer, just to ease your poor legs. They must be sore and stiff." Janet held out a couple of white tablets to Mark. Gratefully, he took them, and swallowed them with his coffee. "They're to be taken every four hours. I'll remember them for you. I wouldn't want to you to be too sore tomorrow."
"Is there some sort of competition about his party?" Mark asked. "You seem to be taking it very seriously, and you'll be spending a lot of money." It was a thought which had been troubling him through the night.
"It's really not a competition. There's no prize, but I'm fascinated by the guys at the 'Oasis' and the opportunity to play with a guy of my own is just great." Janet's eyes sparkled with real excitement "I guess it's like playing with dolls, or dress up, but with a new dimension.."
"Why not just go with one of the guys from the 'Oasis' instead of all this?" Mark asked.
"It wouldn't be the same," Janet shrugged. "I want to be the designer. I guess I want my own doll to play with."
"And I'm it."
