Mom had a training schedule for me, to get me ready to go to work with her on Monday morning. It was only Saturday afternoon! I had a little more than thirty-six hours to prepare my mind for going out as a girl. I didn't think I would be ready for that.
No matter how much my feet hurt, I was not allowed to take off the shoes. I could sit and rest but the shoes had to stay on my feet. I had to look into every mirror I passed and check my hair and makeup. I had to work on my poise and balance for standing, walking and sitting and I had to practice bending and kneeling, too, since girls did those things differently than boys. I had to relearn everything I knew because of the role I had to play now.
