"Well thanks to a simple mistake, we've discovered that you're probably a hermaphrodite," said Doctor Hamburg, who turned to look at Doctor Reid.
"Do you know what that is Lieutenant?" asked Doctor Goldberg.
"Yes I think I understand, Doctor. Are you saying that I'm both male and female at the same time?" Dereck asked, still unsure what he'd done.
"That's right, Lieutenant, so far as we can tell," Doctor Goldberg replied. "It's a very rare medical condition."
"It looks as though your feminine side is winning out, no that you've lost your male parts and you've stopped taking your androgen hormones," said Doctor Reid.
"I suppose that makes some sense," said Deriek, but in truth he was a very confused young man. "I was always smaller than the other boys, and my beard didn't start to grow until I was nearly 19."
